Military says NC soldier killed in Afghanistan

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- Military officials say a soldier from Raleigh has died from wounds sustained in an explosion in Afghanistan.
The Department of Defense identified him as 21-year-old Spc. Darrion T. Hicks. A military news release said Hicks died Thursday in Ghazni, Afghanistan, from injuries inflicted by an enemy improvised explosive device.
He was assigned to the 54th Engineer Battalion, 18th Engineer Brigade, 21st Theater Sustainment Command, Bamberg, Germany.
