BP Goes After Halliburton for at Least $20 Billion (ContributorNetwork)

BP is stating in court documents that Halliburton should pay all the costs of the 2010 explosion and oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, Dow Jones Newswires reported.

21 billion: Dollars at least paid by BP in cleaning up after the spill, as well as covering economic damages incurred by individuals, businesses and governments, according to a report filed in court in New Orleans.

40 billion: Dollars that have been reserved to cover the costs related to the Deepwater Horizon accident, Bloomberg reported.

500: Lawsuits filed in relation to the incident. Bloomberg reported those were combined for pretrial processing at the federal court in New Orleans. Trial is scheduled to begin in February.

250 million: Dollars to be paid by Cameron International Corp. as part of a settlement with BP last month, according to Reuters. Two other contractors, Anadarko Petroleum Corp. and Mitsui & Co., were expected to also settle on an amount to pay for their responsibility for the accident. Halliburton and the Deepwater rig's owner and operator, Transocean, have not agreed to pay damages.

200 million: Gallons of oil went into the Gulf, according to the Christian Science Monitor.

11: Deaths from the explosion.

3: Companies -- BP, Transocean and Halliburton -- were found in an October report by the U.S. government to have some liability in the incident, the Christian Science Monitor reported, with each violating industry regulations.
